Eucalyptus Pet Bedding Laundry Wash

You can smell where the dog sleeps.

Supermarket detergent doesn't get it out. You've been double-washing.

Dog bedding holds smell differently. The oils that come off a dog's coat bind to the fabric. Synthetic detergent is built for human sweat and food stains, not dog oil.

This wash is castile soap, methylated spirits and Australian eucalyptus oil. The eucalyptus dissolves the oil. The castile soap lifts it out without leaving residue. The eucalyptus also deters fleas, ticks and moths from settling back into the clean bedding.

The bed comes out smelling like eucalyptus, not like a different chemical.

Put 50ml in a bucket and half-fill with warm water.

Place the bedding, dog toy or blanket into the water and soak.

Then transfer the bedding (and the soak water, if your machine takes it) into the washing machine.

Wash as normal with half a scoop of our laundry powder.

Cold or warm water in the wash cycle — eucalyptus does the work either way. Hot water isn't necessary and will fade dyed bedding faster.

Four ingredients. All readable.

Pure castile soap — made from olive oil and coconut oil. Real soap, not a synthetic detergent. The same base AEOC has used for laundry products since 1895.

Methylated spirits — alcohol with a bittering agent added so it can't be drunk. Cuts the dog oil that water alone won't move. Evaporates clean.

100% pure Australian Blue Mallee eucalyptus oil — the active. Naturally dissolves the oils that come off a dog's coat. Naturally deters fleas, ticks and moths. The reason the bed comes out smelling like a forest, not like a perfume aisle.

Water.

That's the entire formula.

No optical brighteners (which can irritate sensitive dog skin). No enzymes (designed for human food stains, not pet oils). No synthetic fragrance. No phosphates.

Is it safe if my dog licks his bed?
Yes. Castile soap, eucalyptus oil and methylated spirits all rinse out completely in the wash. The eucalyptus scent left on the bedding is at safe-use levels. Most dogs and cats stop licking their bed once it's clean — the smell discourages it.

Will it strip the colour from coloured bedding?
No. There are no optical brighteners or enzymes. The wash is gentler on dyed fabric than a standard detergent.

Can I use it on cat bedding too?
Yes. Same formula works. Cats can be more sensitive to strong scents — wash on a longer rinse cycle if your cat is finicky about smell.

Will it damage washing machine seals?
No. We've used the same castile soap formula in our laundry range for decades without seal damage reported. The methylated spirits is at low concentration and dilutes immediately in the wash water.

Is the 5 litre actually worth the saving?
Per litre, yes — and the bottle stays in the laundry. Most multi-dog households move to it within a year. Single-dog households are usually fine on the 1 litre.
